Biography:
Lindsay Jow, b. 1987

Lindsay Jow is a self-taught artist born in Bedford, Texas and resides in Austin, Texas. She has a BS in Advertising from The University of Texas at Austin and has spent much of her career in marketing. Her work explores packaging and pattern and how consumer goods shape our culture, are part of our memories and help define our taste. Lindsay’s paintings prompt viewers to reconsider the visual vocabulary of their own lives—to recognize the beauty, humor, and quiet complexity embedded in the objects they encounter daily.

Artist Statement:
I paint life’s small delights. The everyday things that shape our culture, embed in our memories, and define our taste, often without us realizing it. With a background in advertising, it’s natural that packaging and patterns are recurring subjects in my work. I approach these forms with a marketer’s eye and an artist’s affection.

My visual sensibility is shaped by the matriarchs in my family. They passed down an appreciation for craft, antiques and interior decor that has translated to a love of details and design. Their influence remains at the heart of my art practice - in tea cups, pieces of popcorn, and hints of sentimentality.

My work is characterized by bold color, crisp brushstrokes, and a sense of play. I’m especially drawn to the repetition and precision of decorative elements in consumer goods, which offer a meditative counterbalance to the commercial noise from which they originate.

I want my work to prompt viewers to reconsider the visual vocabulary of their own lives—to recognize the beauty, humor, and quiet complexity embedded in the objects they encounter daily.
